Early days in T1 ! 1mm gauge T scale

Some Photos of my attempt to make a working human locomotive powered mine wagon as used extensively in coal mines in Taiwan. The wheels/axels have been freehand turned using my wood drill as a lathe. All a bit primitive :( The wagon will be powered by a magnet on a chain under the baseboard. If any one has any ideas as to what I could use for rail please shout me. Ta.

Hi Tom,
for rails you could use U or H shaped brass profile.I suppose you could get them from a local provider. 1mm large and 0,6mm heigh is what I already found.

Holy!!!

That's going to be cool! Do you have any photos of the prototype to share (or links to)?

Hi, I'm not much good with computers and don't know how to post a link but there is a great web site: yourei coal mine human power railway. Also, an out of print book by C S Small : Rails to the mines. Perhaps some one could post the link ? Ta.
Cleantex, Hello, I like where your coming from. I hadn't thought of that and as the sleepers are buried on the prototype I think it will work fine. I'll have a good look on the web and see what I can find. Thank you for that ;)

Wow! I hadn't noticed this earlier. As if 3mm gauge wasn't enough of a challenge.

Funnily enough, I'd visited that same site on the human powered railway before. I also took a photo of a similar vehicle in the Postal Museum in Taipei in 2005 [see below]

I gather this means of transport was quite extensive for a while, and as seen above, not just used for mining.

And speaking of Taiwan. With only bogie mechs so far available, perhaps we need to think about Shays and similar locomotives. ;)

A couple of Alishan Forestry Railway Shays in Chiayi, Taiwan. 24 Feb 2013. Hmmm! I'm now beginning to consider the possibilities of modelling this line in T.

Triple spiral loop, switchbacks, tunnels and bridges galore. Mmmmm! Magic. 8-)
