Shortening track

I have spent the last few days on railmodeller pro trying to fit the standard track into the layout I want, (a folded eight linking to a hidden point). At last I have a version where all the angles work but the track can't join by about 20mm. I seem to remember someone cutting a piece of 'set' track to size but for the life of me cant find it. Can anyone help please?

Shortening a set track section is fairly easy...but you'll lose the clipping feature in the track bed, which is not that much of an issue.

Cut the track and bed to length with a very fine saw blade...I use a jewellers saw frame with the very thin blades. Clean off any burrs on the end of the rail. Then cut the little cut-out to take the sticky-out bit of track bed on the mating track section....and either butcher the cut end of track to release the track joiner, or use a single rail joiner available from TGauge.com. You may need to take a sliver of plastic from under the rail end to get the track joiner to slide onto the rail.

As an alternative to using a loose rail joiner, you could simply use a flexitrack track joiner and cut the plastic back on both track sections. The choose is yours....
