Sometime over the next few months, I'm going to investigate the use of these little fellas:
They're RF ID tags. The sort that are injected into your prize small pet animal or fish so you can id them if they get lost or stolen!
They'll fit neatly into a recess in the loco underbelly....and if my trials are successful, will trigger a RF reader "hidden" underneath the track.....allowing each loco to be identified as it passes over the reader......very much as your credit card is read as its placed over a card reader in a shop, etc.
This will allow automation systems like JMRI to identify trains as part of the layout automation.
I've got half of the PCBs and components from MERG, and am awaiting the remaining PCBs from China...and have yet to order the remaining components.
I now just need to be able to programme in some time to have a little play...…..
What are they?, you may ask.Something I'm going to look at........
