Re: Wagons - wip

Looks fantastic Doug! Nice little model that I'd guess would make a good master for a casting.

I've been tied to the various service bureaus (Shapeways, etc) but this is starting to make me hanker for my own 3D printer.

Re: Recommendations for a newbie

Look over the various online retailers and blogs... then get a basic oval with one of the newer sets (avoid the 103 series) and test it out. Make sure to get the newer pulse controllers otherwise the speeds will be crazy-fast. Blogs: http://www.t-gauge.net/links.htm Retailers: http://www.t-gauge.net...

Re: New Project - EMD GP40

I like the look of this one, do keep us informed on the progress. This is just the sort of loco which could be use to pull a long train on a layout with a high scenery to track ratio, which would look so good in T gauge. Using powered boxcar (or coaches) should not be a problem, and having a dummy ...

New Project - EMD GP40

I've started work on a EMD GP40 model in 1:450, with scale hood width-- so it will be a dummy until I can figure out how to make powered trucks or a thinner motor. In the meantime, I intend to have it pushed by powered boxcars or other rolling stock. The GP40 and -2 successor is a very common protot...

Re: Joining Flexitrack

I joined my flextrack in the following way: Use N-scale Code 55 joiners to hold the rails in alignment, and the solder. Beforehand, I removed a section of the crossties under the joint--3 or 4 of them--sand the tops, then slide back under the joint area once soldered. One thing to watch for with the...

Re: Rhaetian Ry (RhB) Allegra Train

what kind of layout are you going to make for these kind of trains. Will they have operating headlight? These were made for a fellow T-gauger in Germany, and what you see is the finished model. No working headlight, although I suppose it would be possible to use the standard headlight "chip" with a...

Re: V-IRM CUSTOMS

This is the same technique I use for my decoration. (And I'm jealous of the Alps printers!!! I have to use clear stock over white paint for my white lettering.. ) In my experience the Shapeways body will need to be painted first--but after that it's just a matter of care. You can't over-do...

Re: New forum sections

I was thinking the Layouts section could be modified to include Layouts and Rolling Stock (to share photos of projects in general, not just layouts..) I actually posted my Allegra project report there already because it didn't really seem to fit anywhere else. I agree the banner could be improved 'a...

Rhaetian Ry (RhB) Allegra Train

Here's a project I just completed-- a model of a Rhaetian Railway Allegra set. All are powered, running on the 35.5mm chassis. They are really not 1:450, probably closer to 1:420 or so to fit the shells. I made the control or "A" unit shells with 3D printing (Shapeways FUD), and bashed the "B" or mi...

Back in Black, as the song says ;)

Good to see most of the "regulars" starting to assemble again.
