Re: SD70M - Powered

Here's the updated bogie, the placement of the middle gear had been moved. What do you think? Do you think this will work?

Re: SD70M - Powered

Whoa! I forgot about that, good catch! I think that might be the problem! I'll go ahead and fix it up then order another test print (Just the bogie) with other trains. I agree what you're saying, it is too tight when the gear falls in place. I'll post an update of the bogie here to make sure that it...

Re: SD70M - Powered

So are you saying that the wormgear's diameter should be smaller/larger? Or should the middle gear be smaller/larger? Or do you mean the teeth in the wormgear is too thick? The wormgear isn't 100% accurate, I had hard time modeling the teeth. In the picture it might be little off, but thanks for the...

Re: SD70M - Powered

I still can't figure out what the problem is.

I'm hoping anyone can see it, I had the gears and the worm measured to the nearest specification.

Thanks

I was thinking the middle gear is too loose? (See the half-circle gap of the bogie and the gear hole itself)

Re: SD70M - Powered

Perfect! Thank you! I ordered the right one! I am still wondering why my gearbox still jams, I tried the toothpaste and cleaned it extremely well...no changes, tried adding ultra-thin lubricates...still no changes. I made the gears extremely loose so they can move freely, I am wondering if I made th...

Type 103 Train series upgrade/repairs?

Recently I heard from an email that a company is offering free repairs on all 103 series trains and offer upgrade to newer generation gearbox for $50.

Which company was this, was it sent in an email/update? My yellow Type 103 train wheels' are flaking that are needed to be fixed.

Re: SD70M - Powered

Thanks, I'll try it out. I still think the gear is the problem, I think that I designed the gap too large where the gears will "skip" or jam. I'm not sure but I will take the train apart and play with the gears by hand to see if it is defective or contains "too many teeth/not enough teeth". You can ...

Re: SD70M - Powered

Got my shapeways, a huge improvement to the gearbox. The wheels no longer touches the bogie, I am now facing a problem since the first 3D print of this train. I don't know what is the correct gear ratio of the T-Gauge train that were used. I think I'm "skipping" or getting the gears jammed on each c...

Re: Introductions

Welcome! I remember two of you! It's nice seeing you again, let us know how your progress go! I am wondering if we all can let other users who are involved or interested in T-Gauge and inform them that there is a forum here? Or can we ask David if he could put a link of this forum onto his website s...

Re: SD70M - Powered

Couldn't do much while Shapeways are still shipping the models to me, while waiting, I remade intermodal train cars that will go with the SD70M.

Re: What to use for transfers

I have a question about decals, do they leave surfaces uneven or discolored? Example, you apply decals onto a train, but the decal doesn't match the paint finish?

Do you paint the train first, apply decal over it, then spray coating to make everything blend together?

Re: SD70M - Powered

Ordered my Shapeways models, it will be here on Monday the 6th. One of my part was rejected since they don't approve the supports ( they required 0.8mm x 0.8mm support, I used two 0.5mm x 0.5mm supports). I tried to beg then that it worked last time, lucky these were only the spare parts, the main p...

Re: SD70M - Powered

Thanks for the suggestions! I noticed that you are right, copper isn't flexible. I'll go with phospher bronze or I can order several different materials and experiment them. For 3D models...I won't be able to work on them anymore. My solidworks 2012 license had expired and I'm not in college (home f...

Re: SD70M - Powered

It had been really quiet these days, anyway I had updated the model to include electrical pickups (they won't be 3d printed). I am seeing if I could find some companies that can do etching services really cheap for a simple part, I was planning to use copper since they are very conductive. If I coul...

Re: SD70M - Powered

Thanks jesse for idea, I'll see if I can show pictures from google drive. Hopefully that will prevent it from "shutting down for extended bandwidth" and resize pictures before posting. While holding the train in the air, the mechanism works, but I'm having hard time getting it working on the track b...

Re: SD70M - Powered

Finally got settled back home. After creating the 3d models, they were separated and prepared for Shapeways to be printed. After that, an order was placed at Shapeways and the waiting game begins. In about 2 weeks, I received my package in the mail which contains the 3d model. The hardest part was c...

SD70M - Powered

Hello, I had been working on a project for about a year now. The original thread on the forum is long gone, so I will be reposting my progress here. Since March 2013, I had been working and adjusting my model in Solidworks 2013 that I created from a single image, scaled it to original size...then sc...
