Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

I had a little time, so I added some more detail to my locomotive. I added a ladder from the TGauge.com valve gear sheet, and some coal to the tender. I used Woodland scenics fine cinders. They seem like the perfect size for coal in this scale!

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

Hi Ivan, I purchased my gears from the site that Siegfried posted. http://shop.kkpmo.com/index.php?cat=c28 ... 4188041672 I used the M0.15 gears. They have a worm gear to match. Wormgear M0.15 1.6mm diameter. Your link looks like the same site, but I cannot find the M0.15 gears! My current chassis d...

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

Ivan, I think that the model would also look great if was 3D printed. I just like drawing the graphics with all the detail I can achieve with it. Next, I am going to build another 4-6-2 with a different motor I want to try, and a road name with some vibrant graphics. I am thinking of making one in t...

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

These are some photos of my planes that are made out of the same material. My corsair has a 6.8 inch wingspan, and my triplane has a 1.5 and wingspan. They both are R/C and fly!

My locomotive looks really small in comparison.

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

Ivan, and mattinair are correct in the fact that the body is printed. I spent many hours working on the graphics, and the design of the body. However, it is not paper as many of you know that paper is hard to work with, and looks a little like paper. Mattinair is correct the body is made out of very...

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

Hi Ivan, First I would like to say that I did all of my design work on the model in Adobe illustrator. I scanned in photos of my ZScale 4-6-2 and reduced them down to 1:450 scale. I drew the chassis so it would fit into the body. I spaced the 17 teeth 2.85mm gears at 5.25mm spacing, so the connectin...

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

After many hours of hard work I completed my Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Pacific locomotive! I just have a few minor details that I want to add like some coal in the tender, and a ladder from the TGauge.com valve gear sheet.

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

Hi Doug, I really appreciate the support from everyone on my steam locomotive project. I am hoping we will see many more steam locomotive projects from people in the near future, and some commercially available locomotives soon. I know that Siegfried's steam locomotive will be a beautiful model when...

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

Hi Alan,

I was trying to push the axles in by holding them in my hand without success. I installed the axle in one of my frames to hold in place, and I was able to push the axle in without drilling!

These are some photos of the tender and locomotive body!

Joe.

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

I had a little problem with my 3.2mm motor chassis after I installed the connecting rods. The wheels were slipping, and the rods were jamming. I tried gluing the wheels in with CA, and 5 minute epoxy without success. I had to build a new chassis, so I redrew my design for a 4mm motor, as I wanted a ...

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

Hi Siegfried,

I used 5.25mm the exact hole spacing of the TGauge.com valve gear rod holes. The gears seem to run smooth at that spacing.

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

Hi Siegfried, I moved the spacing out slightly so the valve set would fit. I was hoping that the extra gap would still give me enough gear mesh and it did. However, I think that your spacing may even work, but you would have to test it. I did run it with only one driven pair of wheels, and she ran w...

Re: Pennsylvania 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive.

Guys, thanks for all the kind comments on my project, this is my latest progress. I installed the spoked wheel covers, and the connecting rods using the rivets and the small caps from the TGauge.com valve gear sheet. Just by cutting the rivet it held the cap in place. However, I added the smallest d...

Great tip on the bogies! I have a car that keeps derailing. That may be the reason.
