Re: Rigid Track Painting and Grassed.
Seeing as much of the world has paused today for the funeral of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, I'm not that surprised there's been no comments. Here's a link to my attempt at sleeper painting back in 2012: https://www.talkingtgauge.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24&start=4 It was covered in greater detail on t...

Go on Youtube and search "Forth Bridge T Gauge" and you'll find videos of my layout at Model Rail Scotland, Shildon, Crich and GCR.

Re: Zoom x1000 for deep clean
Cleaning can be easily done using IPA...either in a ultrasonic cleaner ( monitored carefully so the alcohol doesn't get hot!) or brush the wheelsets with a dental brush (not a tooth brush, but one of those small brushes for cleaning between two teeth!). Clean the circumference of the tyres and the d...

"Not secure" message on site access
Apologies for the current issue where you;re getting a "Not secure" message in your browser when accessing the forum. My web host sent me an invoice to renew the SSL certificate back in February....and then didn't send any reminders. Consequently the certificate expired.....which is why you get the ...

Re: The Bridges at Saltash
I hope your dates for live shows work out. What I'm hoping is that as I'm a long-term volunteer at Crich, I might...and I say might.....be able to persuade the management team to allow a very much cut-down version of the normal Models Weekend to go ahead....essentially two or three layouts owned by...

Re: The Bridges at Saltash
Now the UK government have set out their road map for exiting from the current COVID lockdown, it now seems likely that I may be showing the layout at Crich in August this year....either at the Models Weekend show (if it's on!) or as a one-off display of the layout to add something to the offering f...

Re: Has anybody used finescale curved track?
From what I remember seeing in comments here and on the Facebook group, I get the impression that only the 16mm power unit is unaffected by such tight a curve. I assume that the same "Binding" issue will be there for rolling stock longer than this power unit size as well. My personal experience with...

Re: Has anyone used the new fine scale track?
I've used well 0over 150ft of flexitrack and something like 50ft of set track sections. Unfortunately, the flexitrack I've used is not the new fine scale track. If there's a weak spot its the track connectors.....not the colour. The track is stainless steel and the joiners might be gold flashed spri...

Re: The Bridges at Saltash
Its been a while since I've posted here......but there's not been all that much to report... During October and November, I didn't get all that much time to spare on the layout due to my Tramway Museum Society commitments. I had to concentrate on preparing for an AGM....which took up most of my time...

Re: Layout size
You'll have to be careful over choice of rolling stock. Nothing too long....I think only the 16mm power chassis will negotiate the 45cm diameter curves.
And the new shunter. Almost forgot about that!

Re: The Bridges at Saltash
Having moved onto work that will see the layout looking more complete, I've had a shuffle round in the work room so I can assemble the whole layout and still be able to get round (aka shuffle along the wall!) most of the layout. First job was to commission and test all of the control electronics on ...

Re: The Bridges at Saltash
As I'm about to reach a key point in my overall "voluntary" life....an EGM for the Tramway Museum Society, I thought it best to use the natural break in work at home to draw uo another progress report/to do list. Layout boards: Backboards cut out for where track goes through. Cut-outs still required...

Re: Couplings
If you find your fingers are too big to easily handle the couplings, then a pair of pointed nose tweezers is the best tool for the job. You'll be able to hold the coupling by poking one side of the pointed end of the tweezers into the "hole" formed by the coupling so you can then grip the coupling a...

Re: The Bridges at Saltash
Its been six days since my last post.....and I'm able to let everyone into a little secret..... Scenery laying is COMPLETE! On Monday, I put the finishing touches to the scenery on both the Saltash and Plymouth sides of the layout, and created the "beaches" (if you can call them beaches, that is!). ...

Plymouth side scenery now about 95% complete. Just a bit more vegetation and some details to add:
And I've started putting together some marine life...of the human variety!:
