Re: KG's Micro Layout

Micro Layout Mockup I decided on the option 4 track plan but I changed the inner oval to be raised versus the outer making the overpass a bit more complex. I made a “mockup” of the layout pinning the tracks to the foam board and created “elevated track support” out of cardboard. This is a gr...

Is the EMD GP8 really an 8?

I had a very slow Sunday waiting for a bunch of stuff drying and setting so I geeked out a bit on the GP8 which I think is actually “more of a GP9”. One of my general Prototype references is http://trainiax.net/ This is a GP8: http://trainiax.net/drawings/18-emd/gp8/r18-emd-gp8-ph3c-7e.GIF Look ...

Re: The Cascade Loop - my T gauge micro layout

For the Fine Tracks, did you do anything special at the joints? like filing or cutting the rails? I just started to use Fine Tracks and I am concerned about the gaps and miss-alignment I am seeing. When I look at your video the operation is really smooth.

KG's Micro Layout

I have finally kicked off my first T Gauge Layout for real and it's time to figure out the track layout. Step one; build a foam board “replica” of the IKEA frame I am using. I fixed copy paper to the “baseboard” with pins so I can draw outlines on the paper vs directly on the foam board. Tha...

Re: 1/400 or 1/500 aircraft accessories ?

I did a project some years back and we did mix 1:400 and 1:500 scale planes. It was for an airport diorama and had nothing to do with T Gauge. What we discovered is that smaller planes (regional) at 1:400 scale many times looked more correct combined with larger planes like a 777 at 1:500 scale. The...

Re: Gradients in T gauge

I should start by pointing out that I am fairly new to TGauge. Because the wheels are magnetic you have no problem using very steep grades beyond what would be scale prototypical. I have been able to run an ICE 3 train with 4 cars at 25%. I have read that it should work up to 45% but I have not trie...

Removing Couplers

I got my first 35.5 mm (16M) Chassis. I am planning to make the chassis into kind of Trolley so I want to remove the couplers. When I look at pictures it seems like you "hook" them on to the truck, I guess from the top. I took a quick look at the chassis and It seems like I need to disconnect the tr...

More realistic fine track joints

I don't like to use the flex track joiners for the Fine Track, looks very out of place. This is my attempt at improving the look.

Re: 3D modeling tool

I have used the trick before working at 10x the scale (in my case Z-scale) and just "scale it down" once I am done, but most of the time for Z scale I can model it in the correct scale. I checked out 3D crafter, will test that as well. I prefer to use my mac though but it would be good to be able to...

3D modeling tool

What modeling tools do you guys use? I have mostly used SketchUp for 3D printing but you sometime have issues working with very small "resolutions" in SketchUp, like making circles. I was using AutoCad many suns back and I was thinking that maybe I should take that up again. I looked at Blender........

Re: Intro KG Johansson - new to forum

I bought an ICE starter kit and played around with it, but as a first project I will make a "micro layout" if you can say that about T-Gauge. :) I am actually going to build it in an IKEA frame (Ribba). It is a square frame 25 x 25 cm, 9 ¾ x 9 ¾“ with inner measurements of 23 x 23 cm, 9 x 9" and...

Intro KG Johansson - new to forum

Just joined the Forum. I am from Sweden but live in the Bay area (Silicon Valley), California. I discovered T-Gauge about a year ago as I was working on a Z-scale project and had a need for some tech to run cars. I found Martin´s site (Model Railway Musings) and his fantastic “road system” and ...
