Ilkley Layout

Postby gbtrains » Sat Aug 11, 2018 9:51 pm

HI All T-Gauge fans

I have just started on my Ilkley Station Layout.

1 foot by 8 foot.

Consisting os 5 points two of which are auto points for no fingers on show until I can get the motor points with the controller for them when it comes out.

It will have Ilkley Railway Station as the main show plus with the bus station and a couple of roads such as Brook Street-Railway Street and the B6382 etc.

Allready got my 2 boards and just need legs for exihibitions and will make it travel freindly as this will pack into any small car as I will enabke both boards to become a single unit for travel purposes.

please see below for pics, track work done on SCRAM software.

I will do more when I get the chance as I am working on 3D modelling the buildings and also started to paint a few(LOL). :D

Regards
Graham

Hi All

I have now stated on the boards with legs so that the layout can be taken to shows easy in a car as it is onlt 1 by 4 foot x2 so overall 1 by 8 in total.

Needing to get some bolts and leg ties now before starting the ground work on the layout ie leveling.

I am printing my own buildings out now as this will keep the cost down to a mimuim.

Will keep you all upto date. :D

Yes, very good looking buildings. I do know these buildings, and you have captured them well.

Hard to believe that Ilkley was at one time a through station not a terminus, and that a good number of the buildings you have modelled were only able to be built after the tracks to Skipton, and the bridge over the road, had been removed.

I've just connected the facts and the places on the Earth. As a young student from Poland I had to be in the area - maybe I was in Illkley... I spend 2,5 moths in Bradford having practical placement at National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in 1992... Most of the weekends I was travelling around, visiting Yorshire Dales etc..

Fantastic work, it’s coming along nicely! Such a shame the stock points force us into unrealistic track geometry...shame they don’t do fixed crossovers! Still, I don’t think it detracts from the layout at all!

Looking really great!

@mattd10: you have a point about the points, but the geometry is also easy to modify (to some extent, at least). Here's photo of a point which I modified by just cutting it down to the turnout angle which I needed and then connecting to the ongoing track with some flexi to raised track joiners.
