At last......some tangible proof I've got back to work on the layout.....
First job......finish the flexi-traverser:
As I'm going to be controlling trains by computer, it needs to know where to stop the trains on the traverser. And for that I've designed and printed some photo-detectors. Here's an almost complete set of parts for a triple sensor unit for the traverser lanes. There should be three resistors in the photo...but I didn't notice I'd caught them in the sleeve of my jumper and catapulted them onto the floor!:

The bed of the traverser needs a few holes...one in each trackbed for the light to pass through, a couple of squarish holes for wiring, and a couple of holes for the assembly screws. I even designed and printed a drilling jig for the holes...I must have been high on something to come up with that as an idea:

And a few burnt fingers later.....a working set of three sensors. In the background is one of the electronics boxes...a bit out of focus, but you can see a line of red LEDs, left to right, on, off, off, on & on. The last LED is on because the carriage has triggered the sensor:
